I've always been a big fan of STAR TREK.
Yes, I know many people think it is lame and it has been the object of comical parodies, ridicule and silly jokes. But with the soon to be released STAR TREK movie, I began to think about the "Why's"..
Why did I (and still do) like it so much? What value and purpose did it truly serve? Besides being a "Wagon-train to the Stars", what made it so different that it compelled me to watch week after week?
About 7 years ago there was a book entitled "All I Really Need to Know I Learned from Watching Star Trek" by Dave Marinaccio. It was filled with cute remarks and cliches, some anecdotes about living and why you should never wear a Red Shirt. But apparently, I got a little more out of the show than the book gleened over.

And finally, the sweetest and most endearing phrase ever televised:
"I Have Been, and Always Shall Be... Your Friend!"

Here are just a few things I've learned from Watching STAR TREK.
- Everyone has an important role to play in this life. No one is insignificant or without worth.
- No matter what your current position in life is, what you say or do affects the lives of others.
- Each and every person has the right to live their life as they wish. Without judgment. Leave the judgment to a Higher Authority.
- Always try to stay calm in a crisis. Thinking things through without letting emotions cloud your reasoning results in a much better outcome.
- Listen to those around you. You may gain a new perspective on your circumstances.
- Claim responsibility for your actions. Never blame others for your shortcomings.
- Put the welfare of others first and foremost in your life, without seeking compensation or reward.
- Draw close to those around you and develop friendships that will last during hard times.
- Answer the Distress Calls. If someone is in need, be there for them.

And finally, the sweetest and most endearing phrase ever televised:
"I Have Been, and Always Shall Be... Your Friend!"
